Earring Size Guide
Earrings are not sized like rings, but the measurements matter. Here is how to read them.
What the measurements mean
| Measurement | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Hoop diameter | Width across the widest point. This decides how large a hoop reads. |
| Drop length | How far the earring hangs below the earlobe. |
| Stud diameter | The width of the face of a stud. |
| Overall size | Full height and width, including any charm. |
Hoop sizes at a glance
| Diameter | How it reads |
|---|---|
| 8 to 12 mm | Huggie, sits close around the lobe |
| 13 to 20 mm | Small, understated, good for everyday |
| 21 to 35 mm | Medium, clearly a hoop but easy to wear |
| 36 mm and up | Large, a statement earring |
Checking at home
Hold a ruler against your earlobe in front of a mirror and measure how far down you would want the earring to reach.
